I've been toying with the idea of getting a portable projector for a while now – something I could easily move around the house, take outside for backyard movie nights, or even bring on trips. The VANKYO Leisure L3 Mini Projector, with its Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and portable design, seemed like it could be the perfect fit. After unboxing and spending some time testing it out, here are my thoughts.
The projector arrived in a well-protected box, and the packaging felt surprisingly premium for a mini projector. Inside, I found the projector itself, a remote control, a power adapter, an HDMI cable, and a user manual. The projector is compact and lightweight, fitting easily in the palm of my hand. The white finish gives it a clean and modern look. It feels reasonably sturdy, although the plastic casing reminds you it's designed for portability rather than heavy-duty use. The lens is protected by a small cover, which is a nice touch.
Looking at the advertised features, the standout ones are the built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, support for 4K decoding (though its native resolution is lower), electric focus, and a rotatable stand. The promise of easy setup and a portable home theater experience is definitely what caught my attention.
Setting up the VANKYO Leisure L3 was surprisingly straightforward. I plugged it in, and the initial setup menu was intuitive to navigate. Connecting to my home Wi-Fi was quick, and I was soon able to start streaming content from apps like YouTube and Netflix directly on the projector. The electric focus feature is a game-changer for a projector at this price point – being able to adjust the focus with the remote control is much more convenient than manual adjustment.
I tested the projector in a few different settings. In a darkened room, the image quality was quite impressive for a mini projector. While it's not true 4K native resolution, the picture was clear and bright enough for comfortable viewing. Colors were decent, and the contrast was acceptable. I tried projecting onto a plain white wall, and the image was watchable, but using a proper projector screen definitely enhances the experience.
The Bluetooth connectivity worked flawlessly. I easily paired my Bluetooth speaker for better audio quality, which is recommended as the built-in speaker is adequate for casual viewing but lacks real depth. The rotatable stand is a clever design element, allowing for easy angle adjustments without the need for extra equipment. I even took it outside for a late-night movie in the backyard, projecting onto a sheet – it was a fun and surprisingly easy setup. The portability and built-in rechargeable battery (though I mostly used it plugged in for longer viewing sessions) really add to its versatility.
